Cornell Cooperative Extension of Monroe County’s Participation in 2009 Lilac Festival

As part of its Healthy Monroe initiative, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Monroe County (CCEMC), in partnership with a host of local chefs and local farm markets, will be giving cooking demonstrations and tastings using locally-grown products and produce.

“Localvore,” a collaborative effort of CCEMC, local farm markets and local chefs, will highlight the nutritional, environmental, and financial advantages of using locally-grown produce and products, as well as the effect locally grown has on taste.

Taking place on the front lawn of the Extension’s building, located at 249 Highland Avenue, the “Localvore” demonstrations’ and tastings’ days and times will be announced at the Festival on a daily basis. In addition, check the CCEMC website during the Festival at www.cce.cornell.edu/monroe for “Localvore” event times. CCEMC, local chef and local farm market information will also be available daily to those who stop by.

NOTE: Healthy Monroe, which will be formally introduced in September, is an initiative, sponsored by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Monroe County, to encourage and improve the lifestyles of Monroe County residents. The Healthy Monroe initiative offers residents educational events, seminars, and classes focusing on youth and family; health and nutrition; agricultural and horticultural; environment; and economic and personal finance.
