Simply Risotto

Chef Gary Piazza, Chef/Owner of the Gray Ghost Gourmet, will convince you that making risotto is much easier than you think.  He’ll show you creative twists on this classic starter, entrée or side using Italian rice as a main ingredient.

Master Food Preserver Workshop

The three-day workshop includes: the scientific basis of food preservation; hands-on experience in boiling water and pressure canning; gelled products and pickling; demonstrations in freezing and drying; and a discussion of other methods of preservation. The program, taught by Cornell Cooperative Extension Home Food Preservation Experts Katherine Humphrey and Judy Price, runs 8:30am to 4:30pm and includes pre- and post- tests. Evening studying is required. Program participants will earn a certificate of completion, which is the first step in becoming a CCE Master Food Preserver. The cost is $300 per person and includes instruction, a 265-page handbook and three lunches. There is a class size limit of 21 participants. Registration is required, and the deadline is Monday, May 20, 2013. Workshop must be cancelled if fewer than 12 participants are registered.

Picnics, Parties and Potlucks

Join Chef Mary Beth Brinkerhoff, Chef/Owner of For Goodness Taste Personal Chef Services, as she assists you in preparing to entertain during the upcoming summer season.  She will present salads and sides that will not only add pizzazz to your table but please all who share the meal.

2013 Horticulture Classes at Cornell Cooperative Extension, taught by Master Gardener Volunteers on the 1st Saturday of each month in the Auditorium at 249 Highland Ave, Rochester, NY 14620.  Classes will begin at 9:00 a.m and last two to three hours.

Fee for each class – $10 per person .  Select five classes for $45 or all eight for $70.

September 7- Turfgrass 101  Early fall is an excellent time to get your lawn in shape whether you need to fix damage or just get it ready for winter.

October 5- Home Composting can be easy!  Learn how to turn your yard and kitchen waste into a valuable soil amendment.  Tom Martin, instructor.

November 2- Great Perennials for our Area – learn from what does well in our unique climate.  You can have a spectacular garden!   Laurie Burtner, instructor

December 7- Holiday Wreaths – make and decorate your own holiday wreath. A $20 material fee will be collected. Class size is limited. Liz Berkeley, instructor
